Moutiers is easily accessible from the major Channel ports of Caen (Ouistreham) and St Malo, together with Cherbourg during the Summer months. The drive from Caen takes roughly 5 hours along easy to drive Autoroutes or Major roads. The drive from St Malo takes around 3.5 hours, again along similar easy to drive roads. If you prefer to fly from Southampton - there is a regular Summer service to La Rochelle - just one hour from Moutiers.
The Vendee region is that part of France where North meets South and the climate enjoys a more Mediterranean feel - with whitewashed buildings and long balmy Summer days and evenings.
Visiting Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits
It is one of the aims of the Twinning to foster friendships between the individual residents of both communities. One way we can achieve this is to offer reciprocal arrangements for hospitality ie you stay with a French family and in turn they stay with you!
We understand this arrangement doesn't suit all - and for those who prefer to make their own accommodation arrangements - a selection of B&B accommodation can be found on the Moutiers website - www.moutiers-les-mauxfaits.fr St. Vincent sur Jard has a lovely family run hotel right on the beach, and you will be spoilt for hotel choices at nearby La Tranche - see links pages for website addresses.
Like the Witterings, Moutiers boasts its own micro-climate - the weather can get very hot in Summer often 30-40C. Springtime and Autumn are a delightful time in the Vendee, and with slightly cooler temperatures its often the best time to visit if you plan to do something more energetic than simply lazing on the nearby beaches.
